Despite the scoreline, a mediocre game for the Bears. There were patches when they were superb, but these were let down by some dreadful play that allowed the University lads back into the game. Things started off brightly, with Bears racing to a 24-8 lead with just 8 minutes gone. Hustle at both ends of the floor from George Markell and Mark Sanderson picking up the offensive tempo gave Bears an early lead, and the signs were good for a thrashing. Unfortunately, a few substitutions later, Bears lost their mojo and didn't get it back for the rest of the half. The 16 point lead was reduced to 10 by the end of the 1st, and just 4 by the end of the 2nd.
A change of tactics for the 3rd saw a marked improvement and a return to winning ways. George Markell, Mark Sanderson and Liam Wyatt all dominated the quarter, and the hosts had no answer to their defensive pressure or their offensive scoring. Several unsung heroes made this all possible as Martin "Sauna" Saunders, Big Phil Bechmann, Simon Colley, Jamie "Woody" Woodcock and Ahmed Fallatah all work tirelessly defensively making the guards work so much easier. A 33-9 quarter killed the game and left the students scratching their heads.
Both teams went on mini runs in the 4th, but the result by this point was academic. Bears were comfortable and the University guys were deflated. Final commendations go to Little Dan Park for his great hustle, and to Volkan who despite struggling with his shooting (being scoreless from the floor) still got the guys involved and made things happen.
